Jelf Insurance Brokers announce the winners of the 2016 Local Business Charity Awards

Jelf Insurance Brokers have this evening announced the finalists in the 2016 Local Business Charity Awards. Founded by the insurance brokers in 2014, the awards aim to highlight and praise the support given to Gloucestershire charities by Gloucestershire businesses.  2016 saw a record number of entries, from charities of all shapes and sizes, across the three categories.

As per last year there were three award categories to enter, Corporate, Team and Individual.   The judges scored each entry on a variety of criteria such as commitment, creativity, legacy and effect.  Finalists and their nominating charities gathered at the National Star Bistro, Ullenwood, for the finals of the awards, hosted by local radio presenter Craig Wright.

The winners were:

The Individual Award presented by Kevan Blackadder, BID Director, Cheltenham BID
  • Nigel Bicknell from Bicko’s Bike Shack who was nominated by The Nelson Trust who will receive a weekend away to the value of £250
The Team Award, presented by MP for Cheltenham, Alex Chalk
  • Cheltenham Race course who were nominated by County Community Projects (CCP).CCP will receive a prize of £1,000 from Jelf Insurance Brokers
The Corporate Award, presented by Group CEO of Jelf Group PLC and sponsors of the awards, Phil Barton
  • Ecclesiastical Insurance who were nominated by The Nelson Trust. The Nelson Trust will receive a prize of £1,000 from Jelf Insurance Brokers

Phil Barton, CEO for Jelf Group, sponsor of the award said,
‘We hold these awards every year to support the charities of Gloucestershire and the entries are only getting better. My fellow judges and I had a really hard job this year and the winning entries really had to demonstrate something extra-special, to walk away with the prize. We know that although winning the prize is a fantastic achievement, part of the success of these awards is the coverage and publicity that these charities receive. We hope that through social media, local press and the awards ceremony that we have given these very worthwhile charities the exposure they need, to continue to do their great work. We will continue to support all of the charities involved over the upcoming weeks. Our huge congratulations to the winners and our thanks to everyone involved.’
