2018 Launch Release (Oxfordshire)

20 February 2018

Press release for immediate release

2018 Local Business Charity Awards (Oxfordshire) launched, supported by insurance specialists Jelf and A-Plan

The 2018 Local Business Charity Awards (Oxfordshire) have been launched for the first time in Oxfordshire.
The awards, which have been held annually in Gloucestershire since 2014, recognise the support given by Oxfordshire businesses and individuals to their local charities. There are three award categories to enter:

The Jelf Award – entries will be accepted from Oxfordshire charities (with an annual income of more than £200,000 a year) nominating an Oxfordshire business that supports them.   If the company they nominated wins, the charity will receive a prize of £1,000.
The A-Plan Award – entries will be accepted from Oxfordshire charities (with an annual income of less than £200,000 a year) nominating an Oxfordshire business that supports them.   If the company they nominated wins, the charity will receive a prize of £1,000.
The Individual Award – entries will be accepted from any Oxfordshire charity, nominating a person for their personal dedication and contribution to that charity. The prize is a £300 weekend away.

Judges will be looking for how much of an effect the company’s involvement has had on the charity; the extent to which the company has taken the charity to their hearts and the quality of the relationship between the two; they will also want to see how creative the company has been in supporting the charity and the long lasting benefits of the relationship.
The judges for the 2018 Local Business Charity Awards (Oxfordshire) will be:
  • Tim Stevenson OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire
  • Robert Courts, MP for Witney
  • John Carter, Editor, Oxford Mail
  • Jerry Wilson, Managing Director South East, Jelf
  • Carl Shuker, CEO, A-Plan Holdings

Commenting on the 2018 launch of the awards Jerry Wilson, Managing Director South East for Jelf, said,
“We are delighted to support the launch of the Local Business Charity Awards in Oxfordshire, along with co-sponsors A-Plan. We have watched with interest the growth of the awards in neighbouring Gloucestershire and have been impressed by the effect they have had on local charities, shining a light on the great work done by companies large and small. It is therefore with great pride that we are supporting their launch in Oxfordshire today.  While Jelf has grown to become a leading community insurance broker and employee benefits consultancy to small and mid-sized companies across the UK, we have never forgotten what it means to be a local business, just like the ones who will be entering the awards over the next few weeks.’

Carl Shuker, CEO of A-Plan insurance said

‘As one of the UK’s high street insurance brokers, dedicated to providing a highly personal service to the local communities in which we operate, we’re enormously proud to be supporting the Local Charity Business Awards in Oxfordshire. With eight branches across the county and our headquarters in Witney, we look forward to discovering more about the charities – their projects, staff and volunteers – working throughout the region. Very best of luck to all the entrants!’

The awards are now open for entries; entry to the awards is free and the closing date is Friday 1 June 2018. Finalists will be announced on Monday 18 June 2018, and they will be invited to attend awards finals on Thursday 5 July 2018.
