Press release for immediate release
2019 Local Business Charity Awards (Oxfordshire) launched, supported by insurance specialists Jelf and A-Plan
The Local Business Charity Awards (Oxfordshire) have returned for the second time to Oxfordshire.
Following a hugely successful launch event in 2018, the awards have returned to recognise the support given by Oxfordshire businesses and individuals to local charities. This year they are also pleased to be joined by 2018 winners of the Jelf Award, The Oxford Mail, as official media partners.
Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Brian Buchan, who attended the awards finals in 2018 said,
‘I am delighted to see the Local Business Charity Awards return to Oxfordshire in 2019; in the Lieutenancy we regularly see the importance of businesses and charities working together and these awards play an important part in that process. It is right that businesses who work hard to support local charities are recognised and praised for their efforts. I’d like to thank Jelf and A-Plan and the Oxford Mail for their continued support and to urge all Oxfordshire charities to enter. I look forward to reading twice as many nominations this year and meeting the finalists in August.’
The judges for the 2019 Local Business Charity Awards (Oxfordshire) will be:
There are three award categories to enter:
The Jelf Award – entries are accepted from Oxfordshire charities (with an annual income of more than £200,000 a year) nominating an Oxfordshire business that supports them. If the company they nominate wins, the charity will receive a prize of £1,000.
The A-Plan Award – entries are accepted from Oxfordshire charities (with an annual income of less than £200,000 a year) nominating an Oxfordshire business that supports them. If the company they nominate wins, the charity will receive a prize of £1,000.
The Individual Award – entries are accepted from any Oxfordshire charity, nominating a person for their personal dedication and contribution to that charity. The prize is a £300 weekend away.
Following on from last year, judges will again be looking for how much of an effect the company’s involvement has had on the charity; the extent to which the company has taken the charity to their hearts and the quality of the relationship between the two; how creative the company has been in supporting the charity; and the long lasting benefits of the relationship.
The 2018 winners were:
Commenting on the launch of the awards Carl Shuker, Group CEO of sponsor A-Plan said,
‘We would like to thank the Vice Lord-Lieutenant for his kind words and for his on-going and valued support. A-Plan are honoured to be sponsoring the awards for a second time and agree that businesses who support local charities should be thanked and praised in a public way. As one of the UK’s high street insurance brokers, with eight offices in Oxfordshire alone, we are dedicated to providing a highly personal service to our customers and have enjoyed meeting the charities, staff and volunteers from the 2018 awards. We look forward to meeting even more in 2019.’
Mike Owen, MD South East, Jelf said
‘As a national insurance broker with a strong local presence, community is very important to us at Jelf. This year, we are delighted to be sponsoring seven Local Business Charity Awards across the UK in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Berkshire, N.Yorks, Cumbria, Scotland and Wales with plans for more in 2020. We are proud to be the founding sponsors of these important awards and look forward to reading and sharing more stories of generous local businesses in the coming months.’
Each Local Business Charity Awards follows three key criteria: they are held in a charity, they are catered for by a charity and they only serve food that is grown, sewn, harvested and reared in the county, to ensure the awards themselves support local charities and farmers.
Alongside the awards they also run ‘Support A Local Charity’. Best described as internet dating for businesses and charities, each organisation completes a profile detailing their charity’s needs and what they as businesses can offer in the way of help. Both profiles are listed, for free, on the website. https://www.localbusinesscharityawards.co.uk/support-a-local-charity-in-oxfordshire.html
In 2018, Simon Godfrey from Simon Social Media responded to a request for help from Anna Jones and Mechelle Harris from Bicester-based cancer support and therapy centre, the Humming Bird Centre.
Humming Bird founder Mechelle said,
‘Simon spent time with us setting up the Twitter account as well as explaining the advantages of reaching the business network, enabling us to still maintain a professional approach. He also offered to be on hand should we need it and to come back in a couple of months’ time to see how we are getting on. Thank you!’
Simon’s actions gained him a place in the Oxfordshire Hall of Charitable Fame. https://www.localbusinesscharityawards.co.uk/oxfordshire-hall-of-charitable-fame.html
Oxfordshire businesses and charities are invited to sign up to Support A Local Business, for free today.
The Local Business Charity Awards (Oxon) are now open for entries; entry to the awards is free and the closing date is Friday 21 June 2019. Finalists will be announced on Friday 26 July 2019, and finalists will be invited to attend awards finals on Thursday 29 August 2019.
