Suicide Prevention and Suicide Loss Support
What kind of help do you need?
We are a new charity in need of financial support or use of facilities.
As part of the charity’s push to prevent suicides in Gloucestershire we deliver two-day interactive workshops in suicide first aid.
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, or ASIST, teaches participants to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.
We desperately need financial support to host three more workshops locally. We also need venues to deliver the workshop.
We also provide support post loss and have support packs that are sent to families, offering guidance and support. Already a number of these packs have been required. These packs come in various sizes with person centred literature and information.
We need help to fund these as we need to start paying for the leaflets included.
We also deliver Grief recovery courses. This is an educational programme offered to families and individuals post loss. Helping deal with unresolved emotions that can lead to incomplete grief recovery. The programme runs over 6 weeks and is offered as part of our post loss support.
Again we need financial support to offer regular grief recovery courses locally to those bereaved by suicide and suitable venues to offer said courses.
We are in the process of planning a local support group for families to come together post loss. We are keen to have access to professionals at this group. We are looking for volunteer counsellors/art therapists/relaxation and mindfulness to help those experiencing the trauma of suicide. We are also keen to secure a regular venue.
We also need two laptops to run our ASIST Training and to help with running the charity.
Anything else you want to tell us?
In September 2016 the unimaginable happened. Our beautiful, funny, charismatic younger brother took his own life. Pete was 29 and a talented young artist, planning to pursue a career in teaching. Pete was part of a close supportive family and loved so very, very dearly. Pete’s death came as a huge shock to his family and friends impacting on so many lives. He became acutely unwell very quickly and as his family, we never dreamed life would take us on this path.
Following Pete’s death we were blessed to have support from our friends, loved ones and our faith. However, the pain and turmoil were unbearable. The questions, the guilt, the confusion. People and their kindness kept turning our faces to the light, encouraging us to stand in the sun, when the sunshine was gone.
When someone dies by suicide the trauma for those left behind is immense. Unknowingly; families must undergo case reviews, inquests, and coroners courts; as well as organising funerals, and legal affairs. This can be daunting and confusing. Our experience was one of very little support. When this is over, all that is left is a gaping hole. A missing person, and a whole heap of feelings that can leave grievers feeling totally stuck and unresolved. Resulting in physical and emotional pain, anxiety, sickness, depression and in the worst cases further suicides.
From all this sprouted SUNFLOWERS. A charity that aims to raise awareness of suicide, letting people know it is ok to talk. We are listening.

We are an independent charity that gives people the power to speak up and stop crime, 100% anonymously.

What kind of help do you need?
Crimestoppers is a well-known charity but is often mistaken for being a part of the police. We are an independent charity, offering a unique anonymous reporting service to anyone with information on crime 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Our phone line also offers a translation service for up to 130 different languages.
Within Gloucestershire we are looking to raise awareness of our service as far and wide within the county as possible. To support this, we would like to request local businesses, agencies and organisations to sign up as an Ambassador and spread the word of Crimestoppers internally and externally. In return they will be provided with resources, a signed framed certificate from our CEO, support on social media and much more. We would welcome the support of individuals who can support the Ambassador project through their networking avenues, contacts, social media and more.
The Gloucestershire Committee has some exciting volunteer opportunities open, from an Ambassador Coordinator, Events Planner to volunteering to attend local events as Crimestoppers representatives – receiving resources and a charity t-shirt for the day and any travel expenses being covered by the committee funds.
Finally, like any charity we are always looking for exciting fundraising opportunities and would welcome any business, agencies or alike to come and chat with our Committee Chair and Regional Manager about raising local funds for local needs.
Anything else you want to tell us?
Crimestoppers Gloucestershire has seen an increase of 30% in intelligence reports for the county. This ranges from drugs to modern day slavery.
With your support we can continue to increase reporting and enable those who wish to remain anonymous the option to Speak Up and Stay Safe.

Anything else you want to tell us?
Arthritis is the "mother" of all diseases. If you counted people in the UK who are currently living with Cancer (2.1m), Dementia (850,000)and Diabetes (3.7m) and added them together you get 6,650,000. But over 10 million people are living with the pain of Arthritis. Being a local charity, we calculate that over 70,000 Gloucestershire people have the disease. Over the past 35 years we have raised nearly £3m for equipment, which we know is helping treat 3,000 local people every year. We are "open for business" so please get in touch to see how you can make a difference right across the County.

What kind of help do you need?
We are always keen to have assistance with PR and raising awareness of our work through the media. We never pay for advertising, and so media coverage has been extremely helpful and important in reaching people who are at risk of suicide. We have found it particularly helpful in reaching high-risk men.
We would also welcome any assistance with IT issues e.g. when making changes to our website.
Anything else you want to tell us?
The charity was set up by a woman who experienced suicidal crisis following a traumatic event in 2012. She found that the available services didn't work for her and she identified a need for a different kind of crisis service.
Representatives of their charity have given evidence about their work to a Parliamentary Select Committee and to the national advisory group on suicide prevention which is chaired by the Government's adviser on suicide. The Suicide Crisis Centre was described as an example of "best practice" in a letter from the Government last year.

Lilian Faithfull Care is a charity with over 70 years’ experience of caring for the elderly in Gloucestershire. Providing exceptional assisted living, residential, nursing, respite and day care.
The size of your charity (eg 1-5 staff) including volunteers
450 staff, 250 residents and 6 volunteers
What kind of help do you need?
This year we are again looking to help more of our elderly population in Gloucestershire. We care for more people who have little or no resources than any other provider in the County. We need help with:
- Any donations large or small so we can continue to support those residents with little or no means.
- Anyone interested in doing a fundraising challenge to raise money for us.
- Companies, supermarkets and community groups that would like to choose us as their charity for the year.
- Contributions to residents care that we subsidise. The care subsidy for one person is £23,504 a year. This costs us annually £1.3 million to fund. And this is increasing. So we need financial support to help bridge the gap going forward.
Providing more day care and community facilities: Our plan is to open two more facilities in 2019 and 2020. These hubs help to ensure people can have respite for themselves and their carers and can stay at home longer. To build these facilities we need financial support of £80,000
Providing meaningful activities that promote good mental health and well-being: Part of this project is the provision of physiotherapy to all our residents; we would like to secure support of £25,000 to ensure this happens.
Developing appropriate housing for older people: This is key to support independent living; in 2019 we will look to provide affordable flats to rent at reasonable rates to older people in the County. Alongside this aim we are seeking to make life comfortable and as independent as possible in our homes, we can do this by investing in technology that ensures the safety of our residents. This system would cost us around £45,000 to install.
Anything else you want to tell us?
We would also welcome help with:
Any donations large or small so we can continue to support those residents with little or no means.
Anyone interested in doing a fundraising challenge for us.
Companies, supermarkets and community groups that would like to choose us as their charity for the year.
Volunteers groups to help with gardening or supporting residents to go out.

What kind of help do you need?
With the uplift in demand for our services across Gloucestershire, we require additional Volunteer drivers to help people struggling in our community get where they need to go.
What does a Volunteer for Community Connexions need?
*To enjoy meeting new people.
*A current driving licence.
*An MOT'd car and a few hours to spare.
*A flexible attitude and a sense of humour.
*A mobile phone and an email address.
Anything else you want to tell us?
Community Connexions transport is also accessible which allows people with disabilities get where they need to go……however, funding restrictions as they are, we are currently driving hydrocarbon vehicles around our lovely Gloucestershire countryside!
I would appreciate the support of Gloucestershire organisations to fund the provision of electric transport (fully sign-written and branded – a roving billboard!) to partner with us to demonstrate that we all care about our community and the air that we breathe in Gloucestershire.

We are looking for volunteers for a range of activities from attending events, representing GWAAC at talks, attending local cheque presentations and swapping full collection tins near you.
We welcome people in the local area interested in holding your own fundraising event to support the Great Western Air Ambulance and can provide resources and advice to help with your fundraising.
If you are interested in joining Team GWAAC in a challenge event we have plenty to choose from - you could take part in an over seas trek, sky dive or run a 5k or marathon.
Groups looking for a charity of the year can get in touch for information about how we can apply and the support we can provide you. We can also provide presentations to groups about the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.
